Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 Release Date, Specifications, Price

Stemming from the success of their original Redmi Pro smartphone, it looks as though Xiaomi is getting ready to release their newest technological phenomenon. The Redmi Pro 2 is this latest smartphone gadget coming from the minds of the reliable Xiaomi company, and boy is it supposed to be a phone better than ever!

With promises of two memory and storage options to choose from (64 GB and 128 GB), a dual flipping picturesque camera, and the customability of a UI skin of the customer’s choice, it seems that the Redmi Pro 2 is ready to take the market place by storm.

After all, the supposed launch date of this new smartphone is projected for the end of April! But to make sure you’re up to date on all the tech that is predicted to come with this phone, let’s review all of the phone’s standard and special features.

The Big Question: How Much Is It Gonna Cost?

Back in mid-July of 2016, with a combination of clues from Xiaomi and some dedicated enthusiasts of their next upcoming product, a price of 1499 Yuan (Similarly, 215 US$ / 12250 Rs.r) as a starting point. However, the official prices have raised a tad from that initial prediction.

Depending on the storage unit you prefer, the Redmi Pro 2 is projected to cost approximately 1599 Yuan for a 64 GB device (235 US$ / 13065 Rs.r) and 1799 Yuan for a 128 GB device (260 US$ / 14700 Rs.r).

This may seem like an inflated price, but in comparison to the many other smartphones on the market, this price is golden. So, if the Redmi Pro 2 fit all the demands that you require in a smartphone, you may want to think about investing in this product.

The External Appearance and Visible Hardware

Xiaomi has crafted the Redmi Pro 2 to be the sleekest and most visually appealing and accessible of all their previous devices to date. This includes the addition of a 1080 pixel 2.5D curved glass display, provided by the company AMOLED. This feature should allow for the most optimal and clear, crisp viewing experience when accessing and fiddling with the smartphone.

They have also added to the structure a stronger uni-body metal outward casing design, making the phone the most durable of their phone products. This will of course come with a variety of different case choices.

And the best part for previous Xiaomi users of the Redmi Pro is that the casing will be very similar to that of their previous smartphone. Although it won’t fit perfectly to a T, you can still use your favorite phone cases from the past if the urge does arise.

But, What’s On the Inside Counts the Most!

The Redmi Pro 2 is projected to be the fastest, strongest, and most powerful smartphone on the market after its release; and, this is all due to utilization of the MediaTek Helio P25 Soc as its main processor. Doubling that with the choice of RAM, and the user will have an endless amount of storage combined with an ultra-fast processor and the product proves itself to be a main contender in the fast paced race of smartphone invention.

The Impending Announcement

As previously stated, the Redmi Pro 2 is projected to be released near the end of April 2017, alongside the MIUI feed in Android products. Hopefully, when the product does premiere, we will be able to see all of these fantastical features in action, whether it be at a display or from happy customers.

Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 Price, Specifications & Review

The successor to the Xiaomi Redmi Pro, the Pro 2 is a very good option for anyone looking for a simple smartphone and is mainly interested in a contained screen and at an affordable price. Available in the same price bracket as Infinix S2 Pro, it holds its own when compared to the competition. Redmi 2 Pro is available in Dual SIM version, which could mean a determining characteristic of the user.

The Redmi Pro 2 belongs to the segment of “more affordable” phones, so the company neither risked premium materials nor a sophisticated design, but rather stuck with the basics. Small curves at each of its corners, a frame with a slight inclination to hold it more comfortably, a completely smooth rear and a front with large frames – the bottom houses the navigation buttons, so there are no buttons on the screen.

The 5.5” inch Redmi Pro 2 screen is made with an IPS LCD panel and resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. With such resolution and size, we have a more than the respectable density of 312 pixels per inch. The panel has outstanding performance: it has good color reproduction and the viewing angles are wide. The brightness of the panel must be highlighted as the maximum figure remains at approximately 550 nits, making it easy to use outdoors, especially in the sunlight

Turning to the performance section, a chipset Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 quad – core 1.2 GHz with 64 – bit architecture, 2GB RAM, and Adreno 306 GPU is found in Pro 2. In general, we have a good performance. With hardware designed for mid-range and good software optimization – despite having a somewhat old version of Android – the system moves smoothly in any type of situation. In the storage section, we have 16GB of internal memory. Of course, this is not a problem knowing that we can use a microSD card up to 64GB. It has a 2200 mAh battery, with the possibility of extraction.

The Redmi Pro 2 flaunts an amazing 12mega pixel primary camera with features likes phase detection, touch focus, auto focus, smile detection, HDR, panorama, Geo-tagging and 1080 video recording. The secondary camera also allows you to take quality selfies along with the fun videos.

Latest leak suggest Xiaomi's Redmi Pro 2 could see dual cameras return

Xiaomi had quite a year last year with the Redmi Note 2 and the Redmi 2, and it looks like the company is set to follow up on those devices with a few new handsets for 2017. In fact, rumors have been circulating quite a bit about the new phones, called the Redmi Note 2 Pro and the Redmi Pro 2, and we now have a pretty good look at what the phones could have on offer.

The rumors are interesting for a few reasons — perhaps the most notable being that Xiaomi launched the Redmi Pro last year only in China — suggesting that it would be a one-off device. Does the existence of a follow-up suggest we’ll see the phone in other markets? We’ll have to wait and see.

Here’s everything we know about the Redmi Note 2 Pro and Redmi Pro 2 so far.

Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2

It’s looking more and more like Xiaomi will launch a follow-up to the Redmi Pro, called the Redmi Pro 2. In fact, press shots and specs have appeared online showing that the phone could offer some pretty nice specs. But when will we see the device? The latest rumors indicate it could be soon. Pocket Now has published a report suggesting the phone will be launched at some point in April.

First up in the specs department is the camera. While it was initially believed that Xiaomi might have decided to ax the dual-camera setup for the Pro 2, per Weibo, a more recent leak alleges it will return. GizChina provided a full spec sheet for the device this week, and reported it will feature a 12-megapixel Sony sensor coupled with another 5-megapixel Samsung unit. Around the front, the phone is purported to offer a 16-megapixel shooter.

Otherwise, GizChina’s report does not mention the processor, though it does say the Redmi Pro 2 could feature 3GB of RAM. In terms of the display, it seems we’re looking at a 1080 panel.

Information from Weibo previously stated phone will come in two variants, and with one offering 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, and the other boasting a cool 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. We don’t yet know exactly which processor the phone will feature, but some speculation suggests it could be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660.

According to the leak, the phone should be quite reasonably priced. The 4GB variant will come at 1,599 yuan, which equates to $232, while the bigger 6GB version will come at 1,799 yuan, or around $261.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Pro

The long-rumored Mi 5 may be the most anticipated phone from popular Chinese smartphone brand Xiaomi, but there are similar rumors regarding another, equally intriguing device that may be set to launch soon. It’s the Redmi Note 2 Pro, and is likely a spin off of the Redmi Note 2, announced in the summer.

However, while we’re used to the word Pro being added to larger phones, that’s probably not going to be the case with the Redmi Note 2 Pro, which has been certified by the TENAA regulatory board in China recently, giving us a glimpse of its possible specification. While the phone isn’t official yet, this is a strong indication of what we can expect.

What’s going to make it Pro? The TENAA certification comes with a picture, showing what appears to be a fingerprint sensor on the rear, something the standard Redmi Note 2 doesn’t have, and an increasingly important feature on Android phones. The body is rumored to be made of metal, a big upgrade from the plastic used on the Redmi Note 2.

However, this looks like where the differences between the two models will stop. The TENAA details show a 5.5-inch, 1080p touchscreen on the front, a MediaTek octa-core Helio X10 processor with 2GB of RAM, and a 13-megapixel camera on the rear. Additional specs include a 5-megapixel selfie cam, and a 3,060mAh battery. That’s all the same as the version we have now. Android will almost certainly be the operating system installed, most likely with Xiaomi’s most recent MIUI 7 UI over the top.

The fact the Redmi Note 2 Pro has been through its TENAA tests indicates an announcement may not be that far away. It’s possible the phone may be shown off at the same time as the Mi 5, which is currently expected at the beginning of December. That’s subject to change though, as the phone has been expected pretty much all year. Rumors are putting the Redmi Note 2 Pro’s price around $170, which is approximately $50 more than the Redmi Note 2 costs.

We’ll keep you updated.

Update: Added news of a Redmi Pro 2 specs leak.

Xiaomi Mi X1 with Snapdragon 660 May Launch Alongside Redmi Pro 2

Xiaomi is allegedly working on a new mid-range smartphone called Mi X1. According to a Chinese tipster, the upcoming handset will feature the Snapdragon 660 system-on-a-chip (SoC) and up to 6 GB of RAM. This would make the Xiaomi Mi X1 a direct competitor of the Oppo R11. The former shall likely release alongside the rumoured Redmi Pro 2.

Speaking of the specifications, the Mi X1 is expected to be a semi-flagship device, while the Redmi Pro 2 might be a mid-range smartphone. Here are some additional details currently available about the Redmi X1.

The Mi X1 would sit just below Mi 6 in terms of specifications. It is presumed to sport a standard 5.5-inch Full HD (1080 x 1920) display. Coming to storage, the Xiaomi Mi X1 might come with 64 GB or 128 GB of internal memory. While we have no idea about the exterior of the upcoming handset, speculations indicate that there will be a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

A 12 MP + 5 MP dual camera shall reportedly sit at the back. The main lens would possibly be a powered by the Sony IMX362 or IMX386 sensor. A 16 MP selfie shooter is expected to sit at the front.

On the software part, the Mi X1 may run MIUI 9 based on Android Nougat. The phone shall come will all the essential connectivity options including 4G VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, GPS, etc. Coming to the pricing, speculations indicate the upcoming smartphone may cost around 2,499 Yuan ($369 USD or Rs. 23,900 INR approx.).

Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 Specs

Moving on to the Redmi Pro 2, you may get to see a 6-inch Full HD screen powered by the Snapdragon 630 SoC. For starters, this is the successor of the Snapdragon 625 / 626 chipsets. The SD 630 sports eight Cortex-A53 cores running at up to 2.2 GHz each. This is combined with the Adreno 508 GPU. Similar to the Snapdragon 660, the 630 is also manufactured using the 14 nm FinFET process.

Talking of the memory department, the Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 would reportedly come with 3 GB of RAM and up to 64 GB of memory. However, we presume that there shall be a 4 GB variant too.

Just like the Mi X1, the Redmi Pro 2 is also expected to feature a 12 MP + 5 MP dual camera at the back and a 16 MP snapper at the front. The phone should run on Android Nougat out of the box with MIUI 9.

Connectivity-wise, the Redmi Pro 2 would come with all the necessary options. We are yet to have any info about its pricing. However, the handset would certainly cost lesser than the Mi X1.
