MSI GS63VR 7RF Stealth Pro

I'm new to the hackintosh community. I also have a MSI GS63VR 7RF. Is the clover configuration dialed in enough at this point that you would recommend using it in a daily-use environment? I'm currently using this machine as a laptop for my professional work as a web developer 8 hours a day. And I haven't experienced many issue's to date. You can sometimes get the odd crash mainly when shutting down & disconnecting other external screens/devices at the same time, but I have never had it lock up & bricking itself. So in my opinion it's pretty stable as for now. I am using this machine as a windows-machine after hours, so It's a double boot. For audio, i discovered I do have an unsupported Realtek codec, but the voodooHDA does work.... sort a: the headphones output is recognized as SPDIF and doesn't have any volume support :S The internal speakers do work & I haven't tested the line in, so I can't comment on that. I haven't swapped out the wifi/bluetooth card yet, but I am planning to, if I can get my hands on a compatible one. I do need to do some more research on this.

As I have a bluetooth headphone, I just use a simple bluetooth dongle & a pair of bt-headphones & that fixes most of my issue's. The bluetooth is working fine with this dongle & the audio issue's are out of the way

Battery-status I have yet to perfect, see this thread, as I have to patch the dtst file for this to work accurately, but I'm still working on that (if I have the time) If you wan't to use an external display, do know that the dp & hdmi port are not working as of now, they are hooked directly onto the nvidia card. I did read today that the pascal (beta-)drivers were released, but I have yet to test them. I am currently using a usb-c to hdmi dongle, which is working, but it has its quirks. For example, I can only get it to connect properly when my headphones are connected & I'm outputting audio & even then it doesn't work all the time. So hopefully the pascal driver will circumvent this issue. The usb-c dongle's usb-port doesn't work at all, when using it in this configuration.

If you need any help setting the installer up or want some clover-files/settings, do request, I can post them if you like. I do want to note that I am not running sierra at the moment, I'm running el capitan as there were some issue's with sierra at the time of my install & haven't bothered updating yet, as there are no real features that I need to have for my work.

Any update on the graphics card functionality since Nvidia released Mac 10xx drivers? My 2012 rMBP just died and I've been looking at this laptop whether or not it runs macOS. Any update on the graphics card functionality since Nvidia released Mac 10xx drivers? My 2012 rMBP just died and I've been looking at this laptop whether or not it runs macOS. As I'm currently not on sierra but on el-capitan, I'm not able to install this driver yet. I am looking into upgrading to sierra, but won't be doing it any time soon, as I don't want to risk to lose my computer for more then a day, because of my professional activities. Perhaps there are some other people here on the forum that have already installed the new driver on their laptop, I can't really imaging this laptop being that much different from other people with pascal nvidia cards... Does anyone know if there's a guide upgrade guide for laptops going from el capitan to sierra? Or could i just follow the desktop guides on this? Or is it simpler to just reinstall all together? Does anyone know if there's a guide upgrade guide for laptops going from el capitan to sierra? Or could i just follow the desktop guides on this? Or is it simpler to just reinstall all together? If you installed correctly (eg. have correct and current Clover setup), you should be able to simply update from the App Store. Oops, I missed that part. I hope your upgrade to Sierra goes well. I'll be looking forward to seeing your progress. After a long day of tweaking I was able to install sierra finally. I was running a dual boot, without reinstalling win 10 but that wouldn't allow me to update my current mac osx setup because windows had a MSR & de macintosh hd wasn't te first partition etc etc. .. so i ended up backing it all up & just wiping the NVME SSD & repartitioning from an mac os installer. Restore my Mac Backup & updated from there. I'm currently working on fixing the graphics again, because for some reason my old setup no longer works to fix the intel hd630 gfx. I was able to install the geforce driver, but currently it's not working yet or it isn't used on desktop ... So I have to investigate further. But for my day-to-day work my prio is to fix the intel gfx asap. will report back here later, when I have some more/better news Did some more research/googling but it didn't result in any fix for the igpu. I did remove the file disabling the nvidia card but it still won't use it or at least i can't select to use the nvidia-webdriver? it automatically reverts back to osx default graphics driver .... ? Does somebody have any idea's on this? An is it at all possible to have graphic switching on a hackintosh laptop? So should I invest time in fixing both or not? Because if i have to choose, I would off course go for the most power ...

Page 2

I will report on this one later.

Just a quick question => If my laptop is using optimus, which it apparently does :s, there's no way of using the nvidia gfx, right? Because if so, I would just avoid all trouble for now & revert back to el-capitan. The only reason for me to go to sierra, was native nvidia support...

optimus won't work on Sierra or El Capitan it seems like they have enabled optimus for 7th gen laptop, i have a gt62VR variant and dont have optimus. also if your display doesnt have G-sync its most likely optimus.

it seems we both have same sound ALC898, i did many AppleHDA and appleALC patch and none worked(no sound). only VoodoHDA works. also voodo detecs the main speaker and subwoofer as seperate so you can only use one at a time you can combine those two using Audi midi setup in the mac applications. works perfect.

I didn't now that, and the ALC898 really is sad, but I'm mainly using my BT headset, so there's no real issue for me there. I do use the voodooHDA kext & it does register 3 seperate devices. I don't really expect much from the built in speakers, so If they can produce some sounds that's fine, even if the subwoofer doesn't come in. What does bother me is the fact that the headphone jack is registered as an spdif output, and I'm not able to tweak the volume level of it, so it's super loud... so if anyone has a fix for that, that would be great.

Other than that, I will perhaps be looking into swapping the bt/wifi card just to be able to use this laptop in front of tv or wherever I am.

Other than that, I will perhaps be looking into swapping the bt/wifi card just to be able to use this laptop in front of tv or wherever I am.

you can easily fix it using soundflowerbed. combining 2 speakers have same problem of no volume control i fix it using soundflowerbed. just assign the output device to 2ch of soundflower and select soundflower 2ch in volume output and thn you can control volume easily. I've updated my first post recently to include the current status.

Ethernet is working and i've used the atherose2200ethernext kext for that. I'm not sure if all the advanced features work, but basic internet/networking is working as expected, and didn't have any issue's with this kext what so ever

awesome. i was plan to build my hackkintosh with MSI h370 Gaming but affraid that network will became a problem, because it also has E2500 as the controller. thanks lot for this information Kabylake i5 7400 h370 GAMING M3 |  i5 7400 |  GTX 960 G1 Gaming any chance we can get a file dump of the kexts, configs, and EFI settings so others with this rig won't have to go chase it all down? I see some guidance, but its a bit incomplete. Hi VicViper, I've added a dump of the files that I used/changed/patched/installed to get this laptop up and running. I don't however know if this will work for everyone, as my setup has a 4k display & an NVME drive, which needed some special patching, and I don't remember exactly what I patched/changed along the way during my 2 weeks into getting this laptop to run mac os. First of all there are 2 config.plist in there. The default one, is the one I am using now & supports graphics acceleration, but is not bootable when using the installer (it will crash) I have however added a .bootable plist file, which is the one that is installed on my installer usb-drive. So you should use that one when installing. For the NVME drive, you can try to use my files (ACPI-patch & plist-change I think) but it's best to double check with the laptop-guides on the forum for this.

& about the 4K screen, I did have to do some tweaks with the pixelclock, but again check the guides on the forum, because I can't remember what changes I exactly made

So far, if you want audio, use the Realtek Kext & use a tool like soundflower (otherwise you won't get volume-control on the headphones), network is enabled by installing a kext called ALXEthernet.kext (find it here: https://www.tonymacx86.com/resources/categories/kexts.11/) Wifi won't work unless you swap the wifi card(or somebody is able to patch this one) & bluetooth won't work either. I'm using a simple bluetooth dongle for it.

Be aware that the nvidia-pascal drivers won't work as this laptop uses nvidia optimus, which isn't supported. So it's intel gfx all the way. The display-port/hdmi won't work as these are connected to the nvidia card directly. You can use the apple usb-c dongle to hdmi/usb, BUT it's not working all the time, it will for some reason(still unknown to me) crash from time to time when plugging it in (I suspect it to be something related to hdmi-audio ....) and the usb-port on it won't work, but you have plenty of usb-ports on the laptop itself.

Hope this helps!

Stijn, this thread has helped me a lot! One question, how do you handle the resolution? Everything is mega tiny and it doesn't run smooth when I scale it down. Stijn, this thread has helped me a lot! I had the same problem for a while and this generaly means the gfx drivers are not working properly. If you check my updated first post, you will find that i use 2 different plist files. One with a real graphics id & one with a fake one & its that fake one that fixes the hardware accelerated graphics & will fix the stutter when scaling

First of all, my excuses RehabMan, I've edited my profile.

Stijn, I downloaded your File-Dump.zip and I take it that you're talking about config.plist and not config.plist.bootable. So the graphics are fixed when using config.plist after booting with config.plist.bootable + fixing pixel clock, correct?

Yes, for me that fixed the resolution issue's I got most of it running! However it boots quite slow, I tried running in verbose mode but I don't see anything that stands out, do you experience the same? I built the USB using the latest UEFI Clover + your files from the dump.

My Hackintosh has been running great for the past year (almost) BUT lately I'm running into some HD issue's. Better said partition map issues. When checking the drive with disk-util it will give me the “problems were found with the partition map which might prevent booting” error. My NVME SSD is running fine, but this occurs on the 2Tb HD which has multiple partitions. The only reason I could think of, that would create these kind of issue's, is the that during the shut-down of mac-os, the computer crashes somehow. Is this possible? Is this something that is more common with hackintoshes? And what would be the best way to troubleshoot this?

I'm using my SSD as boot-drive, so no issue's there, But the HD is used for my data which includes my professional projects etc. I am able to repair it using a third-party tool, but I don't know how long this solution will keep working, and I would really love to find the cause of this & fix it asap.

AFAIK, partition tables (=map?) aren't usually updated during the normal operation. Maybe some tool made some mistake during the latest repartitioning. I know from using HDD in the past that they don't handle poweroutages/crashes pretty well & that they can end up corrupted. I've had that issue years ago with my windows-pc's from time to time, But this is the first time on mac that I came accross this issue. I do notice that from time to time, when shutting down, the computers seems to power off before the HDD has stopped. I can hear a slight buzzing noise of the HDD slowing down rapidly. As I didn't have any problems, I presumed it wasn't bad. (if it's not broken, why fix it?) Thus now I'm thinking this might be the cause, but that can only mean that the system powers off to quickly OR crashed during shutdown .... ? Can you upload the Clover version of the Capitan system to the same device and want to install the Capitan to it? I have MSI 63vr 6RF so the skylake version and I've made pascal card to work together with integrated intel I've installed sierra and nvidia web driver. I'm able to use hdmi and display port together with build in screen. what I did I've followed 2 tutorials. for fixing intel for enabling nvidia I was really surprised that it all work as there is opinion that optimus combo will not work. what is not working is killer wifi - however I've replaced that with usb dongle

sound - not investigated that yet.

Your system is not Optimus (sounds like Nvidia has dedicated HDMI). Your system is not Optimus (sounds like Nvidia has dedicated HDMI). According to MSI it is. However when I'm using HDMI or Display Port it always switches to Nvidia and manufacture says that both this sports are hooked directly to Pascal card. Intel only works when I'm using laptop screen.
